About the 5K
For the past three years, Phi Chi Theta has held a 5K benefiting families battling disease. This fall, we will be racing to fight against Cystic Fibrosis: a terminal disease, in which there is a defective gene that causes secretions to become very thick and sticky. These secretions clog up the airways in the lungs and the ducts in the pancreas. These secretions cause multiple lung infections and severe inflammation. Over time, lung capacity decreases, and the patients' only hope of survival is a lung transplant. Some patients also develop liver cirrhosis and will eventually need a liver transplant.
On Saturday, November 12th, we will be holding our 5K in honor of Heather James, the very close childhood friend of one of our current brothers.
Our Goals:
All proceeds from the 5K will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. We hope to make an impact on the Cystic Fibrosis community through this, as it will aid in the efforts to spread awareness as well as to minimize the impacts it has on individuals and families. We also hope to spread awareness for organ donors and to show people that being an organ donor is one of the greatest gifts you can give.
By November 12th, our goal is to raise $5,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of Heather. We realize this is a challenge, but with your help we know we can achieve it. The money contributed will help people like Heather’s family pay for the costs of treatment plans.
